Approval of workplaces

Approval of workplaces for offering of work experience components of learning programmes. The merSETA Approval of workplaces is a service provided by the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA) in South Africa. This service is required for certain qualifications.

The process consists of two main steps:

  1. Mentor Registration: A mentor is registered under a company. The mentor’s details, including ID/passport number, name, surname, and qualifications, are added to the system.
  2. Workplace Approval: The company requests a new Workplace Approval (WPA) for a specific qualification or trade. The system then sends an email notification.

The approval process involves uploading required documents, such as a certified copy of the mentor’s ID/passport and qualifications, and a copy of the company registration. Once the application is submitted, a notification is sent to the Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) who completed the application.

If the application is not approved, the SDF will be notified of the outcome and the reason for rejection. The SDF can then address the issues provided when rejected. This service is part of merSETA’s commitment to closing the skills gap in the manufacturing and engineering sectors. It ensures that workplaces meet the necessary standards for the delivery of certain qualifications.
