Curriculum & Learning Programmes: The merSETA manages and facilitates the design, development, and implementation of Occupational Qualifications, Learning Programmes including Learnerships and Skills Programmes. These programmes are designed to support skills development needs as identified in the merSETA Sector Skills Plan.
Learnerships: Learnerships are Learning Programmes that have a structured learning component and a structured workplace experience component which leads to a qualification registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF).
Tax Rebates: Employers can claim a tax rebate from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) for participating in learnerships.
Addressing Scarce Skills: The policies address key issues in improving the quantity and quality of professionals in areas of scarce skills.
Promoting Entrepreneurship: The policies also promote entrepreneurship education.
